Bicycle Parts

Bicycle Parts also include the use of brakes to stop their momentum. With hand-operated brakes, force is applied to brake levers mounted on the handlebars and transmitted via Bowden cables or hydraulic lines to the friction pads. A rear hub brake may be either hand-operated or pedal-actuated, as in the back pedal coaster brakes which were popular in North America until the 1960s, and are still common in children's bicycles.

Bicycle Parts include handles, frames, wheels, seats, chains and spokes. The great majority of today's bicycles have a frame with upright seating which looks much like the first chain-driven bike. The handlebars turn the fork and the front wheel via the stem, which rotates within the headset.

Bicycle Parts also include wheels. The wheel axle fits into dropouts in the frame and forks. A pair of wheels may be called a wheel set, especially in the context of ready-built "off the shelf", performance-oriented wheels.
